A Brief History
of Santal Colony

On 8th February 1881, Santal Colony was esablished by Kerap & Papa Saheb, Siram Soren Pastor, Chotrai Murmu, Sibu etc.. Rev. Siram Soren was the first Pastor of the Santal Colony, Chotrai Murmu was the first Desh Manjhi and Sibu was the first Pargana. The Total Land area of the Colony is 57,930 Bighas 1 Katha & 19 Lessas. Colony lies from Bawnai River to Sankosh river in east to west direction and from Haraputa River to Kalaghat(Simaljuri) village in the north to south directions.

Bahre Hasa

Initially the land area outside of Santal Colony and which extends upto Kamrup district was known as Bahre Hasa.

Santal Colony Tribal Block

The Santal Colony Tribal Block is comprised of 43 Revenue villages with its headquarter at Grahampur. The Santal Colony Tribal Block is populated by various communities such as Santals, Mundas, Rabhas, Telis, Bengalis etc. and the majority of Santals are the followers of Christianity in the Santal Colony.
